Cynthia Louise Bissett was her mother and vice president of mobile company Verizon. Her father was Joseph Anthony Germanotta, Jr., an entrepreneur. He also served as the director of an internet company. She was born in the Manhattan's Upper East Side, where she is a part of an ecumenical Catholic family. Due to this, her parents sent their daughter at the Convent of the Sacred Heart. It is a religious private school that is elitist and religious. Interscope also employed her, in charge of creating music for New Kids on the Block (Fergie, Akon and the Pussycat dolls). Stefani was performing at the same time on the Lower East Side with cover band such as Mackin Pulsifer, SGBand and SGBand.
